BC's six straight bowl wins is the longest streak in the NCAA. Tom O'Brien does a tremendous job building his team with the emphasis on line play and Bobby Boss said that last year's squad was the biggest team he'd faced including the NFL In their final year of the Big East (2004), they had just 11 starters back and would have won the Big East Title had QB Paul Peterson not been injured. They only outgained BE foes by 28.8 ypg. Last year they moved to the ACC with the fewest lettermen lost (15) in their new league. BC opened up 2-0 and hosted #8 Florida St on National TV but QB Porter was injured and two crucial turnovers hurt them. They had a24-14 FD edge and 380-256 yd edge but lost by 11. Backup QB Ryan led the team to a road win in Death Valley over Clemson in OT the next week. BC moved to 6-1 and was ranked #13 for their showdown vs Virginia Tech but were blasted 30-10. After losing the next week to N Carolina, they won their final 2 games and their bowl for a solid 9-3 season and actually tied for 1 st in the Atlantic Division with FSU at 5-3. They became the first BC team since 1984 to rank in the Top 25 every week and recorded back-to-back 9 win seasons for the first time since 1983-'84. Their #18 finish in the AP poll was their highest since 1993 (#12). This year BC has just 12 starters back. Despite missing 4 defensive starters vs Wake Forest and yielding 212 yards rushing vs VT, BC allowed just 90.8 ypg rushing which was their best since 1990 (70.3). BC also had the #1 offense in the ACC at 387.8 ypg although in conf play they were only #4. With 6 starters back, including an improved QB Ryan, they should be just as potent. The D loses 5 starters including star DE Kiwanuka and will likely yield more than the " 15.9 ppg they allowed in '05. While BC must play Florida St and Miami on the road and host powers clemson and Virg Tech, Tom O' Brien always gets the most out of his talent and BC has a great shot at their 7th straight bowl win.
