San Jose State Spartans Football Tickets

SJSt is coming off consecutive seasons of 2-9 and 3-8. In 2004 they had just 8 returning starters and were outscored by 15.1 ppg and outgained by 108 ypg in league play. In Tomey's 25 years of college coaching, he had never had a season with 7 losses until one last year. Even though he installed an electric atmosphere at home, they were only 3-2 SU in home games. Unfortunately, the Spartans had their streak of 6 straight road losses increase to 12. SJSt was playing its best ball down the stretch. In fact, they topped 200 yards rushing in each of their last 3 games winning their last 2 SU. Their win over Idaho was theirfirstwinto end the season since 1997. Those two victories had them finish 2-6 in the WAC although they were outgained by 74.4 ypg, the 3rd worst mark in the conference. The Spartans were -3 in net close losses which means they could have actually have been a 6-5 team. For the first time in school history, the Spartans will play 7 home games and last year all 3 of their wins came at home. Last year the Spartans had just
6 starters back on offense and were changing their systems and avg'd just 22.5 ppg, their lowesttotal since 1997. This year with 7 offensive starters back, the makings of a solid running game and with much improved QB play, they should be more potent. Last year the Spartans had 7 returning starters on defense and Tomey did an excellent job as the unit allowed "just" 32.5 ppg, their lowest total in 5 years. This year he has his work cut out for him as they have just two starters back on the defensive side but it is the 2nd year of the Desert Swarm D so the unit could surprise. With those 3 net close losses and the 7 home games, I'm tempted to call for San Jose to have a winning season. With just 9 starters back, they may be a year away from making such a jump.
