TCU is fast becoming like Virg Tech was a few years ago. Despite not getting the most highly touted HS recruits, they have a great weight training program which builds bigger, stronger and faster athletes. Almost 75% of the roster can bench 400 Ibs. After being a member of the SWC, TCU has had some outstanding seasons like 10-2 ('02) and flirted with a 2003 BCS bowl berth before losing a late game at S Miss. They have been to a bowl in 7 of the last 8 years with the lone non-bowl season being a 5-6 ('04). In the 6 years prior to '04, TCU's D had allowed 40+ pts 5 times (avg of less than 1 per year) but in '04 yielded 40+ five times. Last season they moved into their 4th conf in 10 years. They had to replace 25 lettermen (MWC's highest) and returned just 13 starters. They were picked 6th in the 2002 CUSA media poll and won that title and were picked 6th in the MWC and responded with a dream season. In the opener they knocked off #7 Oklahoma on the road, their first win over an opponent ranked that high since a 6-0 win over #1 Texas in 1961. They then ended Utah's 18 game win streak with a 3 point home win in OT. They were very fortunate to get an OT win vs BYU, a game they trailed by 18 in the 2H, as BYU had 9 defensive starters out. They were a dominant team down the stretch (only close win vs SDSt) and achieved their 4th ten-win season in six years and gottheirfirstoutright conf title since 1958 (SWC). They have won a league title in 3 different conferences in the past six years and finished #11 in the AP Poll (#9 coaches). It was their first undefeated conf mark since 1938. They come into 2006 with the 2nd longest win streak in the NCAA (10). They wrapped up the season with a solid win vs Iowa St in the bowl. TCU set a school record scoring 50 TD's last year and avg'd 33.2 ppg, their best since 2000. This year they have six offensive starters back again but may not match last year's totals with an inexperienced 0-line. I rate their defense #1 in the MWC.
