Utah State Aggies Football Tickets

In 2002 Utah St was still an Independent, joining the SBC in 2003 and moved up to the WAC last year despite the fact that they went just 5-8 in SBC play. The Aggies have now had 23 non-winning seasons the last 25 years but made it to a bowl in 1993 and 1997. In 2003 they actually outscored SBC foes by 11 ppg, the best mark in the conf, putgaining them by 70.1 ypg, thanks to adefense that ranked #45 in the NCAA. With just 10 returning starters in 2004 and a tough schedule including 7 road trips covering 23,338 miles, they slipped to 3-8 and were outgained by 43.7 ypg in conf play where they were 2-5. Brent Guy became the 7th coach in 21 years here and the last coach to leave here with a winning record was Bruce Snyder (76-'82). Last year the Aggies had to replace 22 lettermen and learn new schemes on both offense and defense. Guy's first squad had less than 70 scholarship players and it will really take 3 years to reach the max of 85 allowed. Last year I noted it would be tough to top even 2004's 3-win total and for the 3rd consecutive year the Aggies finished with just 3 wins. They played a lot of frosh and had a tough defensive front 7. They tied for 6th in the league at just 2-6 but of the 3 teams that tied with that record, they had the best ypg in conf play although only at -54.4. They suffered an excruciating loss vs LTech where they held a 478-276 yd edge. Idaho got a 71 yd IR for a TD breaking open a close game when the Aggies were driving to tie, down 20-13. The Aggies did get a 32 yd FG as time expired to beat New Mexico St snapping a streak of 10 straight road losses. This year the Aggies have 13 returning starters combined. The Aggies might have the best skill players in the WAC. In the last 3 years the offense has had just 4,4 and 5 starters returning. They averaged a paltry 18.9 ppg last year and will have their best offensive production since at least 2002 and possibly since 1997 (32.4). The Aggies have just 2 seniors on D but despite the loss of two 1st Tm WAC players, they do return 6 defensive starters and should improve upon the 32.7 ppg they allowed last year. Seven Aggies are on my 1st Tm Preseason WAC Team and RB Marcus Cross is my #2 impact Newcomer of the Year in the leaoue.
