Wake Forest Demon Deacons Football Tickets

Since the ACC was formed in 1953 WF has never had 3 straight finishes of .500 or better. They just missed that in 2003 losing their last three to finish 5-7. Jim Grobe had veteran teams his first two years and went 6-5 and 7-6. He had just 10 starters back in 2003 and they were outgained by 80.1 ypg, the second worst mark in the ACC. In 2004 they had 14 starters back but with the addition of Miami and VT to the conference, the schedule got even tougher and WF had just 10 scholarship seniors. They were outgained by 84.7 ypg in league play. At one point, Bobby Bowden commented after a narrow win over WF that with 4 more plays, WF could have been 7-0. Instead they started the season 3-4 and finished just 4-7. They actually set aschool record with an avg attendance of 30,762 and six of their 7 losses were by a TD or less. They had 15 starters back last year (most ACC) but did have just 9 seniors in the 2 deep and 2 senior starters for the opener. On the bright side, they knocked off Clemson 31 -27 and got 2IR TD's to beat NCSt 27-19 despite being outgained 303-225. Unfortunately in the opener vs Vanderbilt, they blew a late lead and lost at home despite a 472-422 yd edge. The next week they held Nebraska to just 234 yards but lost 31 -3 thanks to 3 defensive TD's. They also appeared to have BC beat leading them 17-0 and then 30-21 with just 3:36 left but amazingly blew that lead and any shot at a bowl. WF was still outgained by 53.8 ypg in ACC play. This year their 19 returning starters are the most in the ACC (9 Sr st). The offense loses its top RB and QB but counting Mauk as a starter (he had 6 st and led tm in pass yds) they have 9 starters back and should improve upon 'O5's 24.5 ppg. Over the last .years only VT has scored more 'TD's on defense (19) than Wake (13).
