Head Coach: Joe Glenn (15-20,
3 years) 2005 Record: 4-7,2-6/8th MWC
Venue:War Memorial Stadium
Location: Laramie, WY Turf: Grass Capacity: 32,580 Seating Chart:
Coming into 2000 WY had not had a losing season since 1992. It was obviously a rebuilding year with just 7 starters back and a brand-new HC and I actually pegged them for last in the MWC. Wyoming fell from 7-4 in 1999 to 1-10 in 2000 and the next two years they struggled with 2-9 and 2-10 records including a 12 game losing streak. Joe Glenn inherited a veteran group with 14 returning starters in 2003 and they had 4 MWC home games. They were outgained by 113.2 ypg in league play, but improved their record to 4-8 finishing in a tie for the cellar of the MWC at 2-5. Wyoming had just 3 MWC home games in 2004 and were outgained by 54.6 ypg, but they did move up to 3-4 in the MWC. They earned their first bowl berth since 1993 and upset BCS member UCLA, 24-21. Earlier in '04 they upset SEC member Ole Miss, their first win ever over an SEC team (108 years). After opening 4-1 they got votes in the AP poll for the first time since 1999. Last year they had 15 starters returning and appeared headed for a big season. They had 19 seniors (13 in 2004) and installed new artificial turf at War Memorial Stadium. Wyoming got a TD with 1:25 left to beat AF by 1 and then in Ole Miss' home opener, the Ole Miss HC said, "We got whipped on the line of scrimmage offensively and defensively." They knocked off the SEC team for a 2nd straight year, this time on the road, 24-14. They opened the season 4-1 including a 42-17 rout over UNLV (led 42-3), their biggest win ever vs a MWC foe. They had the #1 MWC defense in ppg (18.2) and ypg (316.4) and received 11 votes in both polls. QB Bramlet had SEVEN turnovers vs TCU and their season came tumbling down. They missed a 42 yd FG vs New Mexico which replays showed may have been good and had a close loss to Colo St. They had 25 TO's during their 6 game losing streak to end the season. Showing how the ball bounces, Wyoming fumbled the ball 15 times on the season and lost 13 but they forced 26 fumbles, only recovering 6! They finished just 2-6 vs MWC foes (8th place) and 4-7 overall. On the bright side for Wyoming this year is that they were -12 in turnovers. Despite losing their star WR and QB, I'll call for the Cowboys to have their best offensive ppg since '99. The Cowboys' two biggest concerns on D are replacing outstanding NG Dusty Hoffschneider and an inexperienced second-arv but with 6 starters back, should come close to 2005's production.
