The Bills won't take a step forward until they find a dependable starting quarterback. They are a team in transition, with an aging owner and GM who want to win now and a new head coach and coordinators who have a younger team that needs to be brought along gradually. If they don't solve their QB quandary, they could be looking at another top-10 pick in the first round of next year's draft.
Head Coach: Dick Jauron (Regular-season 05 record: 5-11) Offensive Coordinator.Tom Clements, Defensive Coordinator: Jerry Gray
Replacing Head Coach Mike Mularkey with Dick Jauron ( defensive coordinator ) from Detroit Lions. Jauron was the head coach of The Bears 1999-2003 taking the bears to a 13-3 record in 2001, and got them there first division championship since 1990. So with this type of coaching skills bringing to the Bills football club this is want they need this yr to be a factor this season.
AFC Free Agency: Signing new weapons to their offensive line TE Robert Royal from Washington, for the wide recievers adding Andre Davis, and Peerless Price. Also picking up players for their Defensive Line. Back up quarter back Craig Nall.
2006 Team Draft Notes:
One of the biggest surprises was the first round pick from Buffalo was adding to thier defensive line with Donte Whitner (Ohio State) who is a very good athlete with the foot quickness, speed and explosiveness power to make hard hits and plays all over the field. So there alot of changes happeing for the bills as work hard to get this team back in the game. Whitner should help bring a physical presence back to the Buffalo secondary. The Bills then pulled another surprise on folks, trading up to pick North Carliona State defensive tackle John McCargo.
McCargo wasn't expected to go that high either, but Buffalo filled a major need in the middle of its defensive line. Conversely, the team got two players in Rounds 3 and 4 who were considered great values: Ohio State cornerback Ashton Youboty and South Carolina safety Ko Simpson. It's been all defense.
In just his second season, wide receiver Lee j Evans tied for second in the NFL with seven 40-plus-yard receptions. Washington's Santana Moss led the league with 10.
He was tagged as their franchise player and the Bills were very adamant about not letting him get away, even though he was talking about Champ Bailey money. I always worry about having one really good corner. Terrence McGee is a good player, but he's smaller. Clements, along with London Fletcher, are the guys this defense will have to rally around. Clements is rangy and athletic but, other than Deion Sanders, offenses can take one corner out of the game and make him a non-factor. He's probably overpaid by being the franchise guy, but that's probably the only way they could have kept him. He's their best player on defense and that's why they tagged him, but I don't think he's an elite corner. If they continue to play the run the way they did last year, there won't be any reason for teams to throw at them, much less at Clements.
